Who is He? There was a lot of talk going around. The streets were buzzing with the news of the man called Jesus. Was he the Messiah?
The book of Matthew tells us that while they were in the region of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked his disciples about what the word was on the streets.
“They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” The disciples responded by telling Jesus what others were saying, who they thought He was.
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” (Matthew 16:15, emphasis mine)
Yet when Jesus asked the question directly to them, the response didn’t begin with “they replied”, instead Matthew wrote, “Simon Peter answered“. One person spoke up and made a bold declaration, Peter spoke what he believed was true of Jesus.
“Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Now, imagine that Jesus is asking you this same question. “Who do you say I am?”
Who is He to you? What bold declaration will you make today about who He is?
It’s easy to repeat what others are saying about who Jesus is. So easy to go with the tide of popular opinion, safe opinions. The songs we sing, the sermons we hear, do we stop to take it in? To really reflect on the message? Do you sing in agreement or just out of habit?
Who is He?
Is your life a reflection of who He is to you?
Make a bold declaration today of who Jesus is. May these verses fill your heart and mouth as you begin to make your declaration today.
